Antique Gold Ormolu Globe De Marie Wedding Display: C19th France

Item Details.

This beautiful decorative ‘globe de Marie’ stand originates from the late 1800s.

This beautiful stand was used to display and preserve wedding mementoes, as well as to tell the story of a young couple's marriage and their lives together.

Prominently placed in a formal living room, it contained the bride's crown/tiara made from fresh orange blossoms or wax and sometimes her bouquet and floral embellishments and the groom's wax flower buttonhole.

Later, family photographs, locks of hair and any military medals might also be attached.

This one has a green velvet cushion with tiny metal flower studs and an elaborate metal framework of intricately twisted gold gilt ormolu foliage and topped with a central dove, with lots of little bevel cut and engraved mirrors.

Usually covered with a very thin glass globe to protect its contents, this is solely the interior.

Condition.
The condition is excellent for an item of this antiquity, some minor dents, and an overall patina of age all as you would expect, and nothing detrimental to the pieces as a whole.
